Guanlan Printmaking Base 2016
In 2016 I have been invited as Artist in Recidence in Guanlan, China. An inspiring time, in which I could work hard without distraction. During this stay I was able to print 3 new works in full edition, in which perhaps Chinese influences from the kaligraphy are visible. It was a privilege to be able to work in these fantastic circumstances.

Cube
2016A print from the series of works I made during my artist stay in Guanlan, China. A combination of embossing and mezzotint. The black is made manually by means of a mezzotint roulette, so without etching. The embossing has been etched in the plate. The white of the paper, the shadow of the emboss and the velvet-like black form a beautiful image.
Reflection
2016This print is made of 2 plates. A combination of embossing and mezzotint to create the black. The embossing pressure is mirrored to the black shape. These works are not only complicated to make, but also to print. The white must be spotless and the black shape must be exact. The final result must be perfect.
Mirroring
2016This is the first of three works made during my artist in recidency in Guanlan, China. Is consists of 2 plates, mirrorwise. The black character is made with a mezzotint tool, so no etching. It gives a rich and velvet black. The copperplates are printed on BFK Rives paper.
